My Top 5 News Sources

 1. My number one news source would have to be Twitter. I am aware that social media is oftentimes biased and/or unreliable and thus, I do not intentionally look for news updates on twitter. However, I do scroll through twitter daily and come across a number of different posts or accounts that discuss current events. I like looking at twitter for information on the more controversial topics, as it being a social media platform, there are many different people able to share their perspective and knowledge rather than just reading one article. Additionally, the trending page will oftentimes have information about major events taking place all over the world. Twitter. It’s what’s happening / Twitter

2. When I do come across news on twitter I like to do my research and look into the topic at hand further. Many times the individual sharing the information will link a news article or video about the topic at hand. Typically the articles are from the New York Times. While this news source is also slightly biased, it provides the facts and a greater picture than I would receive solely from twitter. The New York Times - Breaking News, US News, World News and Videos (nytimes.com)

3.  My third news source is The Washington Post. This online platform is one of the most widely circulated around the country, providing readers with insight into recent events around the country. I often find these articles linked to posts and on the news page of twitter. For example, a trending topic on twitter today was discussing the fact that 619,000 retail workers quit their jobs in April, which The Washington Post wrote an article about. The Washington Post: Breaking News, World, US, DC News and Analysis

4. My fourth news source is The Wall Street Journal. I do not engage with this source as much as the others previously mentioned, as it is more business and finance focused in its content. However, it is very informative and appears relatively unbiased in the way the information is conveyed. I tend to find articles from this online platform linked to posts on twitter as well, especially around the time of the election when discussing tax plans and student loan debt was a hot topic. The Wall Street Journal - Breaking News, Business, Financial & Economic News, World News and Video (wsj.com)

5. My fifth and least popular source of news is NBC News on television. I rarely choose to watch the news but when I do, it is typically this channel. As with all of my other sources, I typically find videos from NBC on social media and choose to watch that way. Additionally, if I am visiting my parents, they will keep the news on the living room television. I feel that much of the tv news sources are often very biased and opinionated so I tend to take this information with a grain of salt. NBC News - Breaking News & Top Stories - Latest World, US & Local News | NBC News
